Crash with Entrapment

(3/5/08) Units were dispatched to a late evening crash on Demunds Rd. Rescue 140 and Engine 140 responded and arrived to find an SUV on its side with one partially under the vehicle and one still entrapped. Crews also encountered a utility pole sheared off,with high voltage lines down in the area. Rescue 140 went off road to try and gain access closer to the vehicle and Engine 140 blocked the roadway. Rescue 122 (kunkle) responded from the opposite direction and assisted Rescue 140 with the extrication. The extrication took over an hour mostly due to the extreme caution crews had to take working around the live wires.
One patient was flown from the scene with Tanker 140 taking care of the landing zone, and the other patient was transported by ground.
Chief 140 had command, Chief 140A had operations, Chief 122 had the rescue sector, Safety Officer 140 had the Landing Zone and Chief 535 had the EMS sector. Units operating were 140 engine, tanker and rescue. Rescue 122 and ambulance, 535 ambulance, medic 15 and 12, life flight 3, PSP, Penelec, and PENNDOT. Crews cleared the scene around 2 am.

Assist to PSP with Search

(7/24/07) Crews from Station 140 assisted Pa State Police with a search and recovery operation along Pine Ridge Rd. Crews assisted in the operation for two days before being released. 31 volunteers responded to assist along with Wyoming County EMA and Tunkhannock Ambulance

Vehicle Rollover

(7/22/07) Sunday July 22 crews from 140 were alerted for a one car rollover on 292 near the village of Vernon. Chief 140 arrived to find a car on its roof with the driver out of the vehicle. Engine 140, the Tanker and the command car responded as well as ambulance 535, the Kunkle Rescue was placed in service.
As the rescue was being placed in service another call came in for a motorcycle accident near the same area. Kunkle rescue and ambulance flew one out with severe back injuries.

Tractor Accident

(6/15/2007)Friday June 15, around 20:45 Station 140, Ambulance 535, Medic 15 and Rescue 122 was alerted for a tractor rollover with a child trapped on SR 292. Engine 140 and Tanker 140 responded fully crewed and arrived to find the patient ( 7 years old) extricated by family members with a severe leg injury. Life Flight 3 was requested to fly and Rescue 122 was diverted to the landing zone. Fire and EMS crews packaged the patient for helicopter transport and transported him to the landing zone. The family members did an excellent job stabilizing the patient until crews arrived.

Schoolhouse Rd Search

June 1 Station 140 responded to assist PSP with a search for an 80 year old man who was lost in the woods on his 4 wheeler. The command post was setup on Schoolhouse Rd with Command 140 and the Chief. Chief 140 coordinated with PSP and many 4 wheelers and gators from our members and private citizens who came out to help.
After about 3 hours the gentleman was found by the PSP Trooper 4 helicopter using their night vision. The helicopter directed ground crews to him and he was recovered without injury. The victim's 4 wheeler became hung up on a stump and he was unable to walk back to his residence so he remained on the machine until help arrived.
In all, a 25 square mile area was searched. Thanks for all the assistance that was received from the community. It is nice to live in an area where neighbors help neighbors.

Assist Luzerne County

May 12th Tanker 140 Responded to assist Avoca Fire Department on Interstate 81 with a gasoline tanker on fire. The 140 tanker setup a drop tank on the Southbound side of the Interstate to assist in the suppression efforts. The Northmoreland crew was on scene for more than 2 hours before being released by command.

Franklin Twp. Response

May 9th The 140 Engine and Tanker responded to a possible structure fire Wednesday morning at 244 Edgewater Rd. Franklin Twp. Luz Co. Engine 135 arrived driver only with the units from 140 right behind him. Engine 140 (fully staffed) stretched an attack line to the basement and tanker 140 established the water supply. Upon entering the basement the140 engine crew found a malfunctioning furnace. The furnace was shut down and the utilities controlled. The box was placed in service.

Brush Fire keeps Crews Busy

April 12thThe engine, tanker and command car responded to a report of a brush fire on the Keelersburg Road near the Eaton Twp. line. Chief 140 arrived to find 7 set fires going up a steep enbankment in Eaton Twp. units operated for approximately 1 hour. Six junior firefighters got their first fire after completing essentials. The cause was found to be a controlled burn left unattended.

Response to W-B/Scanton Airport

April 4thStation 140 was alerted for Tanker 140 for an aircraft incident at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport, a jet with 52 souls on board was unable to deploy the landing gear to the aircraft. After a few attempts the aircraft was able to land safely.
Chief 140 and Tanker 140 returned to service a short time later.

And they just kept coming in...

March 2ndIn like a lion they say, March 02, started off with heavy rains followed by flooding conditions throughout the twp. At 5am our day started running cellar pumpings. As we were just returning a 1 car rollover occured on Keelersburg Rd. at the Eaton Twp. Line, no injuries resulted. As the guys were just leaving the station a first due box was transmitted for smoke in the basement of a house on Fitches Corner's Road, Chief 140 arrived to find nothing showing from the exterior, after investigating found a faulty furnace with high CO levels, building vented and units returned. All before 08:30 am.

Relocate to the Lake

March 6thEngine 140 and the Chief relocated to Wyoming County Station 12 on the second alarm Lackawanna County 8 box at 1451 Hillside Road at the Clark Summit State Hospital in Newton twp. for a working fire.

First Due Structure box

2/22/2007 The morning of February 22,2007, the box was transmitted from Wyoming County 911 for a house on fire at Green Castle and Keelersburg Roads. Chief 140 (Story) arrived to find a 2 story single family house with heavy smoke visible from the exterior. Bystanders reported two people entrapped in the house. Engine 140 and Tanker 140 arrived and attacked the fire with multiple handlines, making quick work of the fire. During the intial few minutes of the call, the victims were able to exit the residence. Command held Engine 140, Tanker 140(attack), Tanker 5(Dallas), Rescue 112 (Avoca), Quint 251 (Shavertown) and Engine 12-2(Lake Winola. Two firefighters were transported for injuries sustained during the fire.
